glockenspiel (...Bells!!)

Picture
At a recent meeting with several percussion educators, I was told that music for the glockenspiel was "cerebral and esoteric." I responded, "What's wrong with that?" Composers have been making an effort to increase the sound of the glockenspiel as a solo instrument. Whether it is Morton Feldman, David Lang, Stuart Saunders Smith  or Dan Deacon, many composers love the sound of this instrument and want to see it played with the same beauty as the violin or piano. I've embarked on a project to make this instrument a plausible solo voice to other musicians. I have recently recorded every composition in Summit and some new pieces for solo glockenspiel. Enjoy!
